Simple lifestyle changes are effective in preventing or delaying the onset of Type 2 diabetes. Prevention of Type 2 diabetes and its complications can be achieved by:

Maintaining healthy body weight; being physically active – regular, at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise on most days. More rigorous exercise is required for weight control; along with a healthy diet, avoiding sugary foods and saturated fat intake; and by avoiding tobacco use – smoking increases the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
